Father’s Day is a special occasion dedicated to recognising and appreciating fathers and father figures for the significant role they play in our lives. Celebrated annually, the day gives families and communities an opportunity to honour the love, guidance, sacrifices, and support that fathers provide.

Fathers are often seen as protectors, providers, teachers, and role models. From teaching us how to ride a bike or save money, to giving us courage during tough times, fathers help shape who we become. Their influence goes beyond the home. By raising responsible and confident children, fathers also help build stronger communities.

“Father’s Day means we celebrate men who play the role of being a father, in their households and even in their communities. I celebrate Father’s Day by buying my dad a gift, just to celebrate him and tell him how much I appreciate him. I don’t think that all men should be celebrated on Father’s Day because some of them are not present in their children’s lives. They don’t take responsibility or play the role of being fathers.”
Lesego’s words remind us that children notice who truly shows up.

Koketso Mohale celebrates her dad for the small things:
“My dad is special because he shows up even for the smallest stuff, and he always makes me laugh when I am feeling down. The best advice he gave me was, ‘Do your best and let it go.’ He told me that when I was worrying about my exams, and it helped me stay focused. He taught me to be responsible and to treat people with respect.”

Thabo Shobane, one of the celebrated fathers, said:
